Couple Falls to Death at Yosemite While Taking Selfie

An Indian couple fell to their deaths at a popular tourist landmark in California’s Yosemite National Park, the man’s brother told NBC News. Officials reportedly said park rangers discovered the bodies of 29-year-old Vishnu Viswanath and 30-year-old Meenakshi Moorthy late last week “about 800 feet below the popular outlook Taft Point.” Viswanath’s brother, Jishnu Viswanath, told the network the couple set up a tripod near Taft Point’s ledge, which is about 3,500 feet above Yosemite Valley, on Tuesday night last week. The next morning, other park visitors reportedly saw the tripod and alerted authorities.

The park could not confirm Jishnu Viswanath’s account of his brother’s death to NBC News. “This fatality incident remains under investigation,” a park spokeswoman told the network. “No determination has yet been made as to what caused this couple to fall to their death.” Moorthy documented her travels with Viswanath on a blog and on Instagram. Jishnu Viswanath told the network that Moorthy wanted to become a “full-time” travel blogger.
