WOODHAVEN — A man police say was speeding to get away from a smaller car Saturday wound up in a greater smashup that took his life, police said.
According to police, the victim, identified as Dominick Bunch, 24, had been operating his grey 2010 Toyota Camry, when he struck and hit a car in Cypress Hills, at the corner of Crescent Street and Atlantic Avenue.
Instead of stopping, the man tore off down Atlantic Avenue, where the real damage started moments later, at 3:00 a.m.
Bunch's Camry smashed into several parked cars near 88th Street, in Woodhaven, Queens, police said, before slamming into a livery cab crossing 87th Street, which caused his car to overturn. According to the New York Daily News, the impact threw Bunch's body from the car.
A female passenger in the vehicle sustained injuries, police said, and the News reported that the livery cab driver was also sent to the hospital for treatment.
Bunch was a probationary Sanitation worker, according to news reports, and suspected to be drinking at the time, but no breathalyzer was conducted.
